Wait a few seconds, while the screen goes blank, and then enters "engineering" screen. Step 4 - select "update", then select which USB port to take data from. This should trigger the start of uploading of new maps data. The file is about 28gb (Central Europe), but 64gb drive recommended.
The best thing i have discovered is that if you stick a 12v usb adapter (i use my tom-tom usb adapter) into the cigarette lighter you can leave your phone / iPad on charge overnight with the ignition off. This is great for camping. the dash usb doesn't work for very long after the ignition is off.
I've done it. Its possible, there are only 4 torx screws holding each trim on, each side. On a diesel the fake exhaust tip is easier because there isn't the silencer in the way. I had to hold the bumper away from the silencer to get a screwdriver in to do it. Prepare for a few cuts too!
